FAQ's

Do I need a referral from my doctor to see an osteopath?
Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners which means that you do not require a GP referral to see an osteopath. The only time you require a referral from a GP is if you wish to consult an osteopath under the Department of Veteran Affairs, an Enhanced Care Plan (EPC) and the Motor Vehicle Accident Scheme, a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) and Workers Compensation.

Is osteopathic treatment safe?
No treatment is 100% safe and risk free in every case. Even painkillers that you can buy in the supermarket may cause serious side effects in some people. That said, however, osteopathy has a very good safety record. All osteopaths at Life in Motion are committed to patient care and safety, and your osteopath will discuss with you any matter concerning your well being and risk prior to treatment. Once you have discussed and understood all aspects of the proposed treatment, you will be required to consent to treatment, and treatment can proceed.

Do all osteopaths treat the same way?
No, not necessarily. Because there are so many technique options available for osteopaths to use, treatment styles can be quite varied. Your treating osteopath will discuss with you treatment options.

Does the osteopath perform all of the treatment?
Yes. At Life in Motion your treating osteopath/s perform all the treatment.

Should I bring any reports/scans/x-rays along with me?
Yes. Bring along any scans and reports that you have as they are important to your medical history. Also bring along any details of medication that you are taking.

Can osteopaths prescribe medication?
No. If you require any medication or advice regarding medication please see your GP.

What does my first visit entail, and will it include treatment?
During your first visit your osteopath will explore your past and current medical history, and perform appropriate physical examination. A treatment plan will be formulated and discussed with you. When you have agreed to the proposed treatment plan, your osteopath can begin treatment. Your initial visit normally includes consultation and treatment.
